From complaint to measured improvement
Find the cause
Observe the work and identify which part of the process is actually limiting the result.
Compare practical fixes
Keep two or three sensible options and compare them using the same questions.
Plan the change
Write the normal steps, problem steps, information needs, capacity, training, and backup method.
Test on a small scale
Use a small but realistic sample and the same measurements before and after.
Roll it out carefully
Train workers, provide extra support during launch, and keep a safe way to return to the old method.
Check the lasting result
Confirm the improvement continues and that the slow point did not simply move somewhere else.
The information that can change the shortlist
- How many orders, order lines, and units arrive—and how large or unusual those orders are
- How many products are active, which are picked most often, their size and weight, and any storage rules
- Time spent walking, searching, scanning, handling, waiting, and solving problems
- Mistakes by type, where each mistake is found, and what recovery costs
- Labor cost, training time, deadlines, and realistic output at each warehouse step
- Current software, layout, storage equipment, budget, and required payback period
A score helps rank options. It is not a promised improvement.
When a tool shows a score out of 100, it means “relative fit using this tool’s questions and your priorities.” It does not mean a 74% chance of success, 74% more output, or a 74% return.
Picking method and worker guidance are compared separately. A multi-order cart is a way to organize the work. Paper, scanners, voice, or lights are ways to guide that work.
Show the scoring math
For the worker-guidance comparison, each option receives a 1-to-5 starting rating for each question. The tool multiplies that rating by the importance you select, adds the results, and divides by the highest possible total.
Relative fit score = weighted points earned ÷ maximum weighted points × 100. The starting ratings are Lab judgments, not measured performance guarantees. Use the score to choose what to test.
Cost tools use measured labor, mistakes, project cost, and recurring cost
The return-on-investment tool estimates labor savings, error savings, yearly recurring cost, simple return on investment, and simple payback. It does not calculate a complete total cost of ownership, ramp schedule, financing case, or net present value.
Because early estimates are uncertain, the tool also shows lower and higher benefit cases. Replace the example inputs with observed numbers and document what is not included.
Show the basic benefit math
Estimated yearly labor benefit = yearly hours saved × fully loaded hourly labor cost × share of savings expected to become real.
Estimated yearly error benefit = yearly error opportunities × expected drop in error rate × average cost per error.
Simple payback = project cost ÷ yearly net benefit. “Fully loaded” labor cost means wages plus the taxes, benefits, and other labor costs you choose to include.

What the Lab cannot decide for you
The Lab helps with warehouse operating decisions.
